“[The Trade Rules Seminar] is a great way to really gain exposure to the trade rules and their application to what we use every day in the grain industry,” says Dan Suarez, merchandiser at Central State Enterprises, Inc., Lake Mary, FL, and member of the NGFA Trade Rules Committee.

Designed for those involved in trading operations or responsible for merchandising grains, feed and feed ingredients, the program uses extensive case studies and includes sessions on:

  • Trade rules application
  • Commercial and producer contracting
  • Laws and standards applicable to grain and feed transactions
  • Avoiding disputes and use of arbitration when necessary

In addition to obtaining a working knowledge of trade and contracting matters, and extensive course materials for future reference, participants conclude the seminar with a competency test.

“The Trade Rules Seminar gives you exposure to a body of rules that we use in the industry to resolve complaints and dispute,” said Chip Buckner, corporate counsel at Bartlett and Company in Kansas City, Mo. “We look at typical kinds of problems that we see over and over and talk about ‘How did we get there?’ and ‘How do we keep from getting there in the future?’”
