CEO/President of Knobelsdorff (KE), Karl von Knobelsdorff, was recently appointed as principal on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Code-Making Panel 14, with an emphasis on Chapter 5 Special Occupancy and Hazardous Locations, articles 500-516.

“I’m honored to be part of this committee," says von Knobelsdorff. "It shows our commitment to the industry we work in, making sure our voices are heard while keeping our customers, people and facilities safe.

"And by having a seat on this committee, we’re able to further our knowledge and capabilities as a hazardous location specialist," he adds.

The committee’s primary responsibility is to create documents on minimizing the risk of electricity as a source of electric shock and as a potential ignition source of fires and explosions, as well as creating the language to help minimize the propagation of fire and explosions due to electrical installations.

As a premier industrial electrical and engineering company, KE focuses on not only staying up to date on industry trends but leading the way.

"I’m excited to advocate for the NEC, share my experiences, and further my knowledge of the NEC to help guide innovation and change," says von Knobelsdorff.

NFPA is a global self-funded nonprofit organization devoted to eliminating death, injury, property and economic loss due to fire, electrical and related hazards. Adopted in all 50 states, the National Electrical Code (NEC) is the benchmark for safe electrical design, installation, and inspection to protect people and property from electrical hazards.
