Canadian Pacific, Union Reach Agreement

Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) will resume operations on Tuesday as it agreed to settle a labor dispute with the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC), which represents conductors and engineers, through arbitration.

The railroad said the agreement with TCRC ends thework stoppage that began early Sundaywhen it locked its workers out over a dispute on pensions, pay and benefits.

That sparked calls for quick negotiations over fears it could aggravate a shortage of commodities caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, reportsReuters.

“CP is pleased to have reached agreement with the TCRC Negotiating Committee to enter into binding arbitration and end this work stoppage,” said CP President and CEO Keith Creelin a statement.

“This agreement enables us to return to work effective noon Tuesday local time to resume our essential services for our customers and the North American supply chain."
