Substation Fire Threatens Oregon Wheat Fields

Farmers were just beginning to harvest grain

A 50,000-acre wildfire is burning through farming communities near the east end of Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge, reportsKCBY.

Governor Kate Brown made all state resources available to fight theSubstation Fire, along with hundreds of others burning across Oregon.

Oregon agriculture officials are saying the timing couldn't have been worse for farmers who were just getting started with the wheat harvest.

The wheat would have been brought to grain terminals operated for the Port of Portland; the largest grain export port in the U.S.
