2017 NGFA-PFI Feed and Pet Food Joint Conference

Will provide regulatory compliance, innovation insights

This month'sFeed and Pet Food Joint Conference, the annual collaboration between theNational Grain and Feed Association (NGFA)and thePet Food Institute (PFI),will feature several industry leaders and education sessions designed to guide feed and pet food companies through the current complex regulatory environment.

"It is critical for the feed and pet food sectors to work with regulators, our suppliers and each other to advance practical compliance while still ensuring product safety and maintaining the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of our ingredient sourcing, manufacturing processes and distribution systems," said NGFA President and CEO Randy Gordon and PFI President and CEO Cathleen Enright. "This year's conference programming and speakers will help manufacturers and ingredient suppliers address these concerns, provide timely insights on how to conduct a facility-specific hazard analysis, and explore the latest research and innovation."

Designed specifically for the feed and pet food sectors, the Oct. 23-25 conference, to be conducted at the Seelbach Hilton Hotel in downtown Louisville, Ky., addresses pressing policy, regulatory and operations issues that companies face in today's environment with a strong focus on compliance with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). In addition to updates on FSMA implementation, the conference will include the latest information on the GMO food disclosure labeling standards and an interactive training session to prepare employees for the new conversation-based inspections that will be coming under FSMA.

The program also features several non-regulatory topics, including a look at agricultural policy and adapting to the Trump administration, as well as an update on the latest research and innovation for the rendering and pet food sectors.

Keynoting the conference will be FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine Director Dr. Steven Solomon. Attendees also will hear from Kentucky Department of Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles, Jenny Murphy, consumer safety officer for FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine (the agency's point person on FSMA implementation), and several industry leaders.
