U.S. Department of Labor Amends Status of Maritime Industry Advisory Committee

The U.S. Department of Labor announced today that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has amended the status of the Maritime Advisory Committee for Occupational Safety and Health (MACOSH) from a discretionary committee to a non-discretionary committee.

MACOSH will continue serving as a body to advise OSHA regarding maritime industry practices, and matters pertaining to the administration of the OSH Act related to the maritime industry. The composition of the committee remains the same which, by statute, is comprised of 15 members appointed by the Secretary of Labor.

Created in 1995,MACOSHadvises the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health on related issues and concerns for workers involved in shipbuilding, shipbreaking, ship repair and longshoring.

The announcement was published in the Nov. 18, 2020Federal Register.

Under theOccupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees.
