Stand up for grain safety week 2021

Stand Up for Grain Safety Week, an annual safety outreach effort hosted by the National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), was held March 29-April 2, 2021.

This industry-wide effort to raise awareness about grain handling and storage hazards and spread resources that provide education and training on best safety practices is made possible through theNGFA-OSHA Alliance. This partnership facilitates cooperation and communication between the regulatory agency and the grain, feed, processing and export industry.

Shortly before the 2020 Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week, a national emergency was declared due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

Cancelling the Stand Up was not an option. Agriculture is part of the nation's critical infrastructure and the industry was experiencing rising injury/fatality incidents.

The alliance quickly launched a dedicated Stand Up website and developed a webinar series for the week.

When planning for Stand Up 2021began, many restrictions remained and there was no clear indication of when "normal" would return.

Guided by desired outcomes and key priorities, the alliance planned a hybrid, Stand Up Kick Off event to maximize participation.

Free daily learning sessions were offered by GHSC to provide a week of safety activities accessible to companies, organizations and individuals.

The week's activities were integrated through website enhancement, platform sharing, registration process, coordinated promotion activities, gathering/developing resources, and strengthening/using other partnerships.

Over 3,500 people, both employers and employees, domestic and international, attended events throughout the week,
