The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) issued its first Hazard Alert of 2017, Think Quicksand, to remind miners to be careful around hoppers. In one instance, a front end loaderoperator was loading sand into a feed hopper. When he got out of the cab to retrieve two 55-gallon drum lids from the hopper, he fell into the hopper and became engulfed by the sand.
