The Bismarck Tribune's Mikkel Patesreportedon a spat between Arthur Cos. grain elevator and the local farmer next door over a two-acre "Dead Zone" where fertilizer levels are up to 20 times higher than expected rates.
The owners of the land, Donald and Ruth Garnas, believe that the Arthur Cos. grain elevator drained water containing fertilizer onto the spot. The elevator claims that they have never drained anything but clean water and the dead spot is from drown-out.
The issue is being investigated by the North Dakota Department of Health and the North Dakota Department of Agriculture but so far there have been no details released by the agencies.
