Cargillplans to introduce a soluble corn fiber ingredient commercially in the next 12 months. Samples are available now.

With a minimal 80% fiber content material on a dry foundation, the ingredient allows a high-fiber claim in products.

A bulking agent, Cargill said the soluble corn fiber has half the energy of sugar and minimally impacts color and texture.

The plant-based, non-GMO, gluten-free ingredient could also be used to cut back sugar in products.

Potential applications include baked meals, cereal, drinks, confectionery items, dairy items, fruit preparations and pet food.
